A bit into the planning process, I realized that I’m making very minimal progress because I’m working 9 – 7 every day, then I have to go to stuff after work and by the time I get home, the absolute last thing I want to do is open up my laptop and do work on the planning. Especially when it requires research on completely uninteresting things – such as visa requirements, passport validity, etc.
Then one day, I came across fancy hands on Gilt’s website. Fancy Hands is an online service where you pay a sum / month for remote personal assistants. Basically, imagine if you had an assistant with an internet connection and unlimited phone minutes. In other words, PERFECT for what I needed. Granted, what they omit from their site is the fact that each “task” has to be capped at under 15 minutes, so it can’t be big projects. But what I found really helpful was, even though they were not planning my trip – I can have them help me with specific things, like, visa requirements for specific countries. Baggage restrictions on South American airlines, etc.
Luckily, they had a sale & a summer promotion coupon, which allowed me to get the 3 month unlimited service on Fancy Hands for just under $130.
Happy to report, I am completely satisfied with their service. I wouldn’t get the 15 requests / month option though, because sometimes you need them to research further and that may chip into your allotted requests.
My suggestion is – get to work on everything – then assign all your research tasks that are tedious and don’t require your own judgement (what sights to see, flights to take etc.) to the capable assistants there.
